IPSA RC 33 Round Table – HOW CAN WE IMPROVE OUR CAPACITY TO STUDY POLITICS?

Date: Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 of July 2011, just prior to the annual meeting of the Argentine Society of Political Analysis (SAAP).

Place: Cordoba Argentina (there is an international airport)

Subject: the general topic How can we improve our capacity to study politics?

Sub-topics:
a-The problem of specialization in political science;
b- The relation between political science and international relations. (Is international relations a subdiscipline of political science?);
c- The relationship between political science and public administration (Can public administration be devoid of politics?);
d- The relation between political science and other social sciences;
e- The relevance of political science for the public, politics and the media;

Papers are invited on the general topic or any of the sub-topics.

Hosts: The Argentine members of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) Research Committee 33 on the Study of the Discipline of Political Science (RC 33), Cecilia Lesgart and Arturo Fernandez and the Argentine Society of Political Analysis (SAAP) are the joint hosts. Local hotels and meals will be covered by SAAP for the first ten paper-givers but participants must cover their own travel — although by April/May we hope to have confirmation of funding to cover part of the costs of air tickets.

Of Interest: To all political science, social science and philosophy of science professors and senior graduate students who are concerned about the current state of the discipline and are seeking improvements — whether or not they are members of IPSA or RC 33.

Deadlines: Abstracts of proposed papersand short CVs should be received by March 31, 2011. Electronic versions of papers should be available by July 15, 2011.
