「ホロコーストとイスラエルを考える」シンポジウム

開催趣旨
日本ではイスラエルというと「アンネの日記」が広範な読者層を獲得していることもあってすぐにホロコーストを思い浮かべる。ヨーロッパの反ユダヤ主義の帰結としてのホロコーストの犠牲の上に成り立った国だというイメージである。他方で、犠牲者であったはずの国家の軍隊が2008年12月末、ガザを攻撃し、1400人を超えるパレスチナ人が亡くなった。イスラエルは国際的非難にもかかわらず、その後も「自国の安全のため」だとして、その攻撃的姿勢をまったく崩そうとはしていない。イスラエルは「対テロ戦争」を遂行するためには手段を選ばないのである。最近もハマース幹部がドバイで暗殺され、偽造旅券を所持したモサド工作員が逮捕されたと報じられている。
いまやイスラエル・イメージは分裂し、場合によっては衝突さえしている。ヨーロッパで生まれた反ユダヤ主義とシオニズムがホロコーストという悲劇を介してどのようにパレスチナという中東地域の問題になったのか。そして「ユダヤ人国家」イスラエルはこれからどこに向かうのか。今こそイスラエルという国を考えてみたい。そのため、このシンポジウムをさまざまな立場から自由かつ活発に議論できる開かれた場にしたい。
ヤコブ・ラブキン・モンレアル大学教授が、その著書『トーラーの名においてシオニズムに対するユダヤ教の抵抗の歴史』（菅野賢治訳）が平凡社から出版される（3月末、定価5670円[税込み]）のを機に、再び来日する。教授はこれまでシオニズムを内在的に批判する発言を行ってきた。シンポジウムでは著者とともにイスラエルという国が存在する理由をさまざまな角度から議論してみたい。

Scope
Many Japanese are likely to recall Holocaust when asked about Israel. The Diary of Anne Frank has been widely read for many years to this day. Israel is seen as a compensation for the tragedy European Jews suffered during World War II, the ultimate expression of racial anti-Semitism. This tragedy is also invoked in justification of Israel’s military activities, including the 2009-10 attack on Gaza resulting in 1,400 Palestinian casualties. International reaction to the attack has also been affected by memories of the Holocaust: some compare Israeli troops to the Nazis while others restrain their indignation excusing Israel as the legatee of the Holocaust. Either way, the memory of the Holocaust muddles rational debate about Israel and its actions. This symposium aims at encouraging open discussion of the politics of memory and their effects on public perceptions of the conflict in Israel/Palestine, of connections between anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism and public attitudes to Israel and its raison d’etre.
Professor Yakov Rabkin of l’Universite de Montriol will visit Japan on the occasion of the publication of his work in Japanese by Heibonsha under the title “In The Name Of Torah: The History Of Jewish Opposition To Zionism (“Torah No Nanioite: Sionism Ni Taisuru Yudayakyo No Teiko No Rekishi”) translated from French to Japanese by Prof. Kanno Kenji.
